Walker Tire is an independent retreader and has flourished by having the best experienced builders in the country for repairing tires, which allows our customers to keep the lowest tire expenses year after year. We are what is referred to in the industry as a custom shop. Being a custom shop, each tire is important and deserves the best care.

Walker Tire Retreading History

In 1963 Walker Tire opened the first Bandag Retread plant in Lincoln. In the late 60’s conventional retreading was the most common way to retread a truck tire. Walker tire retreading turned to a McMillan conventional system, or in those days, the “hot cap system.”

All attempts to find a precure system for building and curing tires failed and the decision was about to be made to get out of retreading all together.

In December of 1972 Nick and Donna Vuko were invited to a party at Vern Walker’s House. During that party Vern found out who Nick was and what Nick did for a living. It seems that Nick was a civil engineer who worked for Goodyear in the rubber industry in their industrial products plant in Ohio developing retread products. Nick arrived in Lincoln, April 7, 1973, to develop the Walker Tire Retread system we are using today.

Today Walker Tire is an independent Retreader. In addition to using what we feel is the best product in our manufacturing plant. It has allowed us to acquire The Nokian NOKTOP tread rubber used worldwide as an all-season or snow tire tread to contend with winter’s ice conditions.
